I liked this book, and didn't expect to. I'm not certain what in the world was up with all of the art changes - especially right at the beginning of the book changing back and forth so much. But the story was awfully good. It did tell the story - or much of it - leading up to Harbinger Wars 1 - and that was why I was a little shocked that the order lists them backwards. But the interaction of the kids - while a little frenetic - really holds up well to detail each of the character powers, and how they might be handled. Bloodshot as a defacto leader of the ragtag bunch really brings this cute group of kids together to make the attacks. I loved how you can look back through panels to see where each power is quickly foreshadowed, too. The writers really had organized that well.
What this comic has needed.
This comic NEEDED desperately this BIG punch in the gut. It did a number on itself - and really turned a corner over the last few issues. From the tattered turquoise all the way to the change in art - it all was put together to form a real new direction - and thankfully abandon its old ways. That's great to feel. It's too bad that this universe was closing up shop - more than halfway. It feels like the Punisher did - or perhaps SHOULD have felt. It is dark - and regretful over its choices. Where the Punisher was often TOO callous or unfeeling - this guy seems focused around a central sense of just. Sort of between Rorschach and Punisher. And it doesn't seem like a clone of either. Now, the other side - the lost between two words - needs to come to a close - but it's doing well.
