Made more sense to me to have LAST cover on THIS issue - but with things so far in advance, the comic may or may not have seen everything coming, right? And this one - as kooky as it may have seemed - did have a few interesting lessons in it. The comic has skewed into the younger audience. What I thought may have just been a little cutesy before - and bringing in the kids to show wisdom as adults, has now turned into strict lessons for kids - and pandering, too. Kids probably don't really need to be told these stories - as the problems that these kids face are outside of a potential reader's sphere. Bringing in Ninjak again was a strange touch - in a lot of ways. First - the offbeat perspective from writers, "For a fun read..." Second - that he was the source of wisdom. For a group of adults who created these genetically modified kids, they are pretty stupid.
A brilliant end
So much of the reading of this from Giant-Size 2 came FLOODING back to me as i read it. While portions of the story were shrouded in my memory - I remembered much of the comic - but especially the capture of good old Toad, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver, then the fast replacement of the three with Beast, Marvel Girl, and Cyclops. What I liked most about this was that the Sentinels didn't just brush by them. They quickly realized their error - and tried to rectify it. It exists in real time with real consequences. And Scott's jumping onto the quandary with the Sentinel directive - and the opposite - that the sun must be destroyed - nice work there. Logic destroyed them. That might be the shifting point in these comics - not only does the argument for logic over-balance - but the existence within a reality that is real. Loved it.
