For you, I am putting myself back through this story. In its defense, it is nowhere near as bad as any part of the end of some of the original Valiant comics. However, it is still REALLY bad. Everyone who has never read it talks about Busiek. That's the clear line of who has really examined it. The concept - that a kid gets changed into Ninjak while playing the video game is one that someone who ISN'T the target market of the comic would guess to be successful. Every reader of the book knows that it either cuts TOO CLOSELY or targets the market of kids too young - or kids that read comics a few years before. Darkhawk and Sleepwalker were already attempted, and while remain popular, were already fading. This was more than likely the least successful, but had better writing than a few of these.
Why does this go HERE?
I don't understand why the comic took this step here to write this sort of fill in story that carried over to the new Hulk comic. Why not start the new comics with Hulk 101 - and HERE, for crying out loud. The last issue was cut - and could have stopped there, right? This trip to Asgard with poorly drawn Loki and Odin makes little sense to me - especially when the Sub-Mariner one needs to be finished in some one-shot mag. The Sub-Mariner story? Well, I am GLAD to be done with him. It starts with him attacking a plane that crashes into the ground, and then attacking a statue that attacks him - and it's a man from his dreams! ugh. Goodbye.
