And that's a harsh thing to say - because much of the title had really worked. The art was strong - the covers were breathtaking - and a great villain, too. But it had so much strife - the start-over, the flips, the changes in art - and really not much going in the stories, too. It needed a new plan. Take 2, right? The re-writing of history - and retro-fit. At the start, the story really grabbed me. I felt myself quickly forgetting so much of what had been put down - and I followed quickly. But much of the excitement was tamed by the conclusion of the story. It didn't get bad, but certainly lost its groove too much by the end. Bring more of Jack in the story. Show me him losing it here - even if it turns out most of it had been in his mind. I can take that. But once the envelope and accelerator are down - you can't let up. The style of the art is strong. Less loose than it had been. And of course, I want to see Darque by the story's conclusion. But for now, let's just leave it to the fact that I didn't want to drop the book by its end. We shall see.
Strange fellows, indeed.
Not certain of the direction of the comic yet. I liked the fact that nearly all comics got some kind of overhaul - but this one wasn't the kind of book that reached into the soul and hooked you. It felt like it was more reaching ahead - and not really thinking completely yet. I didn't like the shift in focus from the characters to these peripheral - or unimportant ones. It almost felt like most of the PSI-Force characters were no longer the focus - and that may have been the intent. But in retrospect - it's tough to imagine really anyone picking up this book at the change over. The only redeeming part seemed to be the director - sort of feeling back to his children. But not enough yet.
