Seriously great comic. It starts off light. Well, not what I would call light. But retelling the perspective of the story from eyewitnesses has a certain flair. And although the witnesses are all strong caricatures of real people, the one from the old woman mentioning the Angel of Death was striking. Nicely started here. It actually feels a lot like the new Bloodshot. In fact, if I were really critical, I might have liked this one more. And that kind of surprises me. Not that the newest one is bad - it just doesn't have the level of strength in the other titles. This one keeps hitting for the fences. It flips back and forth from tormented soul - revitalized man inside the body of the trained killer - and back again to those in pursuit. It certainly doesn't have the level of sophistication as the new version. So much of that comic is really smoothed out from place to place. But the pacing is very quick - even cutting through much of the dialogue discussed from page to page. It can be overwhelming, but is well worth a re-read, too. I can see why many called this one of the strongest places in the new Acclaim / Valiant universe. The goods taken from the grocery store scene is particularly meaty. Eww....
This is the problem with the Hulk.
The comic takes such a drastic step forward last issue. Revitalizing a great villain, serious steps taken for artwork, and really writing the Hulk character. Unfortunately, it lasted one issue. AND THEY "KILLED" the Rhino. Now this mutant freak from Russia grown from the missing link that is called Man-Beast is still going at the end of this issue? And look at this cover? Sad. Betty even breaks away from the Hulk and of course is attacked - INSTANTANEOUSLY! What a mess. The only interesting things are first - the Hulk is changing back and forth at unknown paces. And secondly, his injury that still hurts the Hulk. But serious steps back from last month.
