This one is a mess. Ugh. It hurts me that so much potential could wreck a book to this degree. It really is painful to read. And it COULD be great. And WAS great. In fact, many of the ideas incorporated into the writing of the book were things that the writers had already done over time - or I had considered. But the pieces don't fit to make anything really effective or memorable at all. Perhaps because 'Russ' is such a meathead, or the robot has such a level of sarcasm that it goes beyond humor - and seems just abrasive. In fact, nothing really happens - outside of Magnus deciding to re-infect everyone. I also hate the use of the 'phony' places filling in for Disney World. Really? Fighting Presidents? And that's not even until next issue.
Sub-Atomica, eh?
This comic took some serious steps backward into really terrible writing. I like the pursuit of Silver Surfer, but fighting androids from Sub-Atomica? Boy that stuff is terrible. Can't we wander around for a while? Get lost? Follow a trail? I liked when Reed was finally choosing to sacrifice himself for the planet - and that made Silver Surfer return, but most of the rest of it was at its very best, really wretched writing. I mean, the ENTIRE area can be developed into WHATEVER the thing wants - and it chooses Psycho-Man again? Wow. This is really pathetic. The girls on the side, too, are facing the tragedies of having to speak to one another. About how the world was nearly destroyed? Bleah.
