I thought that someone HAD to die. Can't finish the first big one without SOMEOne going, right? But it pushed a lot out there - and I liked the numerous X-Men references, the fact that everything couldn't end up nice, and the suggestions that Las Vegas was permanently altered in the face of these guys. I LOVED the conclusion to the Harada past story. Really did NOT see the fact that he had experimented on himself hidden back inside that big helmet. I've come to really appreciate the art throughout the line. It isn't clean - or even polished. But that's why it fits so well inside of the whole line. I also liked the many references to the closing without a nice, neat wrap-up to the story. Finally, major kudos to the Faith revelation in the comic. She stays true to herself, and is also willing to sacrifice herself in the comic to save her friends. Kris's part here was pretty good, too. She's not just some silly pawn or girl to get caught. She has ideas, but since she isn't some super-powered person, her talents work better elsewhere. Am I prejudiced? Certainly. But this one is really developing nicely.
Exactly what I didn't want.
I hate prejudice and racism. Any judgement that looks at an individual - and judges as a group - stupid. But I also hate these stereotypical looks at members of these groups, too. One of the strongest parts of the original run was that the comic made you forget that any characters were white, black, male, female, old, young, etc. With the intro of these characters - race plays front and center. In ridiculous manner. The cover is stupid - and the minority characters get little real descriptions outside of their extended racial stereotypes. Ugh. The story puts an interesting perspective on Randy - from a bigoted household, but with progressive attitude. But the comic didn't need to resort to such extreme silliness to make that point.
