I always hated it when a comic book would kill a character in some 'soap opera' manner. The character would fly off in a plane that would explode, or lose radio contact, etc. Valiant had clashed with that mantra, and goes overboard to show us that - with no regrets or shame. The execution of Felina is particularly graphic, but effective. Even on this reading, I turned to the page and thought, "What did I get on this... Oh... Holy smokes. One of Valiant's rare pushes beyond the boxes in the early days - and it really hits hard. It still stuns me how this book got SO bad - right around Unity, and took a serious turn back into excellence. If Magnus - such a central part of the universe - had skipped its poor nature in the center, the whole universe may have turned a different direction.
Comic book Terrible
Oh MY God. This one sucks. I'm trying to find something in any way to be likable about this book. This is the section of writing is such a fill-in book. Closure from front to back. Nothing interesting, or to hold onto. My favorite quote, "It's like a science fiction nightmare come true!" This is. This looks like a bad crossover with a Tales book of the same time frame. Again, I understand the importance of investigating - and even crossing from the old stuff into the new... But geez.
