That is one amazing bit of a cover there. Now, it embodies the nineties excess in comics. EVERYthing is MASSIVE - but this cover is pretty darned cool. Bart Sears isn't my fave penciler on the run - but this cover does have something special. Even as 'Liefeld-esque' as it is, it really says something. Now, the interiors are not as cool - I'm thinking especially of the African-American business woman with the stupid triangle glasses. Bleah. And Aric's expression is just too bowed together - silly. The story, however, is a great one. The bond between the two characters comes out quickly, and it's easy to see why these guys stick around through the Valiant I run. Excellent.
What? Huh? WHAT?
So, the first thing I did was jump onto wikipedia to see if the Scarecrow was in fact, a Marvel character. I kept remembering the old Superfriends guy. Then, I remembered seeing him in a few books here of there. For background, the Scarecrow DID appear twice in Golden Age before here, but not AGAIN in DC until 1967 - AFTER this guy. A crazy tale, to say the least. A silly, fun little romp. With a darned cool villain. I won't say that the book was excellent, but pretty darned good work at it. The back-up story? Vegi-Forms from the planet Fernius. Think I could make up this crap? The second? About the most dangerous weapon the universe could imagine... The COBALT bomb!
Hmmm.
Better cover to X-O. Better story to Tony. Not the Alien Vegetables.
