Fabian had something going in his writing. And it is here. Ellis's writing - pure brilliance - if sometimes a little bit hard to read, certainly. The thick of this comic is that it really connects the Valiant that WAS into the Acclaim that followed. For all purposes, this is the Acclaim bible - perhaps the Rai zero of this universe. It unwraps so slowly that while I could feel where it was going - and I could recollect reading it - I didn't sense it until I got to the end of the comic. And WHAT a payoff. The dedicated reader - pacing back and forth between the two independent and parallel lines - masterful. I am not certain if the intent was the re-creation at the feet of this character - but it is. The writing is also positively critical - especially at the conclusion of the run - but still tells the whole story right around from beginning to end. This is worthy of multiple readings.
Nice clean story
This has all of the makings of greatness. It has come around to explore both sides of the character - self and hero. That is where Spider-Man comics succeed. Don't like the hypnotizing the Captain stuff, but the connections between Gwen and Peter are top-notch. Not only does he really admit to the fact that he loves Gwen - and that is a big jump in itself. It ALSO really starts the conflict rolling between the two. When she sees her Dad getting hit by Peter - and asks him to leave - Peter then must wrestle himself down to d othe 'right' thing by her and her Dad. Here is where the new era of Spider-Man can really be felt. Although it hasn't transitioned over to the Bronze era, it has made an identity for itself again.
Wow. Both are among the best of their era - and making their turns.
But SOLAR is more important to its frame. Both are excellent, though.
