Interesting concept for a villain - one who exists in a variety of times. The sliding from concept to time is cool - and the kids are quickly vanquished - then reappear to defeat the villain again. But surprisingly, or perhaps not at ALL surprisingly, the best part of the comic comes toward the end. Fabian has a real knack for these bits of character development, and quickly scribes a beautiful past for XL - reflecting on a bullied moment in school, and then being able to run back and change it. As she watches, she realizes that while the experience may have been negative, it developed her into who she is today. Major compliments in a few ways to the writers. First and foremost for writing a quick script that quickly explored the concept of race - and crushing neither side, not playing easy favorites. But secondly, for writing another plot that reached into the heart of this character. While it may be written for kids, this one has heart. I am enjoying this title MUCH more than I could have ever anticipated.
Nice little flip-change here.
I liked this comic. It really followed along the pacing of the new X-Men set, and feels different again. The comic has a few changes coming over its next two years - and should really set itself going. I LOVE the new costumes, too. Magneto seems too flat - but also feels a lot like the Dr. Doom setup, but off in the middle of the ocean. What is up with the CRAZY EYES this issue, though? Magneto and Quicksilver both have that crazed look about them - and Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch have BOTH changed a LOT since their VERY recent days with the Avengers. Needed more of a motivation to have that big of a flip. The Cyclops story is an interesting one. Not certain why or if it was necessary - couldn't a lot of this been inserted into stories? But the story does fill in quite a few holes and loose ends.
