The comic feels like a fill issue. Not that it doesn't belong - just that it feels like a road from here to there. I understand that the road has been laid to cancel Harbinger, and instead fill in the Visitor, but the transition is awkward. I can feel so many of the lines from the Visitor book - father and the like - within the text. It feels forced. But the comic isn't that bad, still. It's nowhere near as good as the last one, but it is still a great read. Sad to see it going out on a high point. It could have been one of the continuing comics. Especially as one of the original pre-unity comics. Yes, I know that Archer & Armstrong was, too. But seeing this cancelled alongside Dr. Mirage and Secret Weapons is a bit painful.
In the beginning. Pain.
I gotta admit. The book is working hard to better itself. It is nowhere near some of the storylines in the competing comics of the age - and much of the reason that so many of these early issues are relatively rare, certainly. But this comic doesn't hold up as well. And after last month's cover - again I am biased - this one looks more like an advertisement than some hangable piece of art. But the depth of the history - while certainly reflective of the time - is a grandiose effort to add some richness - and history - to the entire line. That is commendable. And the continuation - good. But the comic - not so much.
