Well, a few things are easy to see here. First - why Bloodshot and Secret Weapons were teamed up together - this issue clearly highlights it. And even though the book - Bloodshot - has a different feel to it, the two sides fit together nicely. The other thing that's easy to see is how Secret Weapons was almost revived alongside. Either the plan was to keep it going, or the art that got out, the issue is a strong one. I know I've harped on the whole mis-step of the initial Secret Weapons run, and its excellent attempt to replace the character book - but too late. This story line with Bloodshot being controlled by his blood and former enemies - seems well pieced together.
Back from the depths.
The Sub-Mariner story starts out in that classic Silver format. Big, booming panels, grandiose gestures - and in a nice typical phrase - the mind control. Sub-Mariner is able to break free of the Puppet Master's mind control - only when he is physically defeated - and must retreat back to the water. Developing him as a character - strong - but with specific frailty, has always been one of my favorite parts of him. Sub-Mariner is still a marvel of achievement at this level. Hulk story makes for an interesting cover, but not much as far as a real story goes. Just a quick one-off - which many of these stories are. But good to still see that character being used. Of course, we KNOW he's coming back soon.
