I really thought halfway through the comic that the Vine would destroy their whole planet. It was really quickly coming to that, wasn't it? The book analyzes the differences in species - and further expands upon the nature of the alien race - politely giving real respect to the group of aliens once so dull that no character in the Valiant universe could feel sorry for them. These aliens switch over - and half of them are worshiping Aric - and the other half are ready to rewrite their own religion to suit the new needs of their race. The most touching moment was the turnover of the species - still seeking - that saw so much - and saw Aric wear the armor, and then believed. He changed himself into a new race. Immediately after, his own race slaughtered him. That threw me on edge - and I believed that they would destroy the world from above. At the conclusion of the story, Aric greeting his new world - and extending his own hand of friendship - while taking his peers back to earth - really solidified for me why the armor would choose Aric. Excellent.
Back in the flash
An interesting turn in the story. Kill a main character. Execute the entire book, right? I don't know if the line intended to go down this line from the start - and really - it could have had a quick change on a panel or two, and put it in a different direction. The story isn't a bad one - but since I knew where it was going, I sort of just followed the pages of the story. Development of the story - and I hope that someone was a bit surprised by the end of the story. It's too bad that this ended up at the bottom of the heap. Probably too related to the whole Justice idea - and as messy as it was - it was good to see the line come to this level. Strange how it continued from the 11 issue - and then continued in a last 12 issue, eh?
