I'm reading this last night, and enjoying the read, but then I'm starting to rub a bunch. I must change when I am reading this, but the comic in its purest form - as a comic book... Well, it's a bunch better to read like that. This version strips out so much of the... words... The panel with Quantum & Woody scaling up the side of the building... Sideways. Or even the Quantum cape sprawled out over the ground... With so much blank space around it, it just isn't NEARLY as interesting to read. Bring THAT back. The director's cut cover is pretty cool - stylized as the video cover. And a few of the scenes splice back into the story easily. That's nice. But the comic loses a bunch when it reads in this form. If you haven't yet, grab these COMICS. Not this version.
Welcome, Franklin!
I have made no bones about my relative disdain for the Fantastic Four comic for some time. This one finally makes it around the bend and gets back to what really should be important in the story. THE STORY! And strangely enough, it isn't really the story that makes any difference. Another trip to the Negative Zone? Is that really what we care about? And do you think Reed will ever REALLY bar that thing up, or will he just keep leaving the door open at night for whatever Tom, Dick, or Anihillus to sneak through? The story is pretty bad - but the STORY is a great one. Perhaps that made even LESS sense than I thought it would. The fight, Negative Zone, and plot are pretty bad. But some of the full page spreads, and especially the saving of the child not yet born - those are worthwhile. And readable. This book deserves some real attention.
