December 31, 2011 - Battle to the.... really hurt...
X-O vs Magnus. IN RIO!
So, Magnus follows X-O back to his homeland area, and immediately tries to battle. Whil we see that X-O is much stronger than any of them, we know Magnus is going to do something smart to throw them off. Knock him out, of course. I think its sentience is interesting. The armor is modified from its nineties incantation, and more boxy. The best part about this book is our exploration of who Spylocke is becoming. He offs most of the man's county persons, and is looking for the next spore of the X-O. Something ain't right here. He also lies to the team about his executions, and its purposefully left vague about whether he found where the spore is or not.
Yes, by hero I mean... Obscure character
Look, everyone! It's Dad! We've found him and now we can... Uh-oh. So, the comic introduces a character to kill him in the next issue. At least it isn't in the SAME issue, right? But Invincible Man turns out to be the Super Skrull. No wonder this book seemed so much better than the other. I LOVE the Super-Skrull. These Sixties books have taken on a new life - and are really starting to turn a corner with their development. The death of Dr. Storm, while rather contrived, did put a nice piece of realism into the book - especially when so much of it really didn't do much else.
