Too bad, too. Probably one of my four favorite covers in the line. And the book starts out STRONG. It examines the changes in the political landscape - and poses questions that most victims would be facing. How could a hero fail? What now? But it falls apart quickly. The read is much too easy. It seems to fall through panels, not much meat, and the team ends up herding a few people into a train/ship. A great concept, but it seems too hokey - and especially Gilad's face when he gets the ship out, and laughs, "I feel a thousand years younger..." Like a school girl. Bleah. The beginning had SUCH great promise, too. Reflecting the wars, and death before.
He's back.
I don't know if the surprise guest really shocks me so much. But the story quality has certainly been strengthening over the last months. Not that it's great yet. This one had its weak moments - the pogo plane is silly, but at least we've gotten around trying to explain all of the science held within. I am still not a fan of the wrap everything up neatly in a box set - but it's getting better. Not entirely certain why the Avengers show up in the comic - and do almost nothing - but they're here, too. Now, the book just needs to stop using Sue as just a constant hostage, and it will be on its way to making this a much better book.
