I thought this villain was a stupid one before, but he makes some quick in-roads on being not so lame in this book. Dr. Noel returns here, and don't get me wrong. He was terrible. But this issue rings nicely. The Malev War is one of the stronger parts in the Valiant Universe - certainly beyond Unity, at least. I like the inclusion and upgrades that the characters have gotten. I also liked the destruction of the weather system. Cool to have that perspective on the weather from Gilad, too. He's become quite a cool character for the future storyline. Liked.
Look over there!
So much of a story now is in the set-up, it's hard to see how any company could have avoided putting anything into it. This one included. But frankly, the story starts to do okay without it. Yes, I am getting soft in my reading of these Fantastic Four stories, but the book writing has gotten much better. We're at least not trying to explain the bad science anymore. That's a big step in the right direction. The villain is still bad, and a little repetitive - didn't some other villain already convince others of their solutions? But the writing has certainly improved quite a bit. The last frame, though, with the FF laughing at being lost in the forest rings like the end of some bad Scooby-Doo episode.
Sorry, FF
Like to give it to you - but Magnus is still too strong here.
