This was a nice twist to introduce the Eternal Enemy as the mother of the Eternal Brothers - and holding her up for years at a time was a great idea, as well. I also liked when she confronted the two brothers - and their own conflicting responses to finding out their mother is alive. While we are at it... How about this cover? Slick design - showing the eyes in color across the kind of sepia and black and white hybrid cover. While the comic came to a rather abrupt ending - and I knew it had to - more than likely the story had a plan of drawing out everyone together - I wish that the book had a greater retrospect on Archer. Or at least a stronger frustration from Armstrong. He just lost his newest partner? GET that guy, man! All in all - a decent end to this story.
Fighting back the past.
The issue brought back Swordsman - again. And I am starting to realize that I may have loved the IDEA of Swordsman more than the actual Swordsman, himself. Or, perhaps that I hated Egghead so much. This guy is an EXTREME level of dolt. And I do like the change-over in Hawkeye - even if it will be only for a while, he has changed up the line-up a bit. But the writing has taken a significant step backward since the greatness of the last few months. What is it that only a few comics can really be hitting out of the park each month? X-Men hits its stride - and this one turns to this lackluster writing. It isn't the WORST thing that I have ever read - but certainly it's dull. Do we need to see Goliath fighting the Avengers when the Swordsman comes in? Do I really think that he would battle the Vision and Wasp instead of the intruder just to fuel his strange sense of battle? This I can't believe. Or that Swordsman could - on his own - really capture all of these guys and then head off to the next adventure... At least it's really only this comic. But please, kids.
