What a total perv. Disgusting. The story up until that point isn't terrible. Of course, a guy that has gained THAT much control over his powers and everything... You'd think that he'd have some sense of something in it. The cover is pretty good. But the story is forgettable.
Well, almost so. The fact that Gayle said she'd take Phil back if her were here... That tugged at me a little bit. Of course, we know where the end with the Rai zero stuff at the end of his life. But these stumbling blocks in the middle are usually worth avoiding. Don't skip all of this one, though. It's a quick read, if nothing else.
Annuals have a bad reputation.
Most of the time, they flit past a story - and have no real impact about any of the titles. This one is little exception. It took me way back to the first issue of Spider-Man when he made an in-road to try and join the FF. This one looks at the other side of the coin. It really mis-handles the Avengers team. The whole Sixties era - especially the Wasp. Wow was that terrible. She just kept saying how much she hated spiders, and therefore couldn't have him join. But the section with him reflecting on the Hulk - seeing that he was almost like an animal - and also seeing the alter-ego inside of the Hulk was a little poignant. It came to the head when he decided to abandon membership, and move on. Of course, he never realized that the Avengers were really willing to help the Hulk. Of course, if they WERE that interested, they might have helped him themselves.
