The story just wouldn't stay in my mind. It reminded me some of the old Fantastic Four story where the FF confront an alien and an alien baby. For reference, that was a dark pile of garbage. This isn't THAT bad, but it certainly isn't very good, either. It does do its best to sort of wrap out the story from the previous few issues - which in its entirety was interesting. Certainly worth a read. But this one - the story of some interstellar camping trip with a spoiled child that SOLAR sort of stops - and then doesn't really stop... Reminded me of a bad Twilight Zone episode with the story that doesn't end. It leaves me on the hook, but after the end, I don't care to look back.
Birth (and demise, too)
This isn't an altogether bad story. It started out slowly, but gradually started to mix in some of the characteristics that made a comic great. At the beginning, I thought this was a pale homage to the old Silver Age Spider-Man, but by the end, it had gotten its legs on. I won't say it was great, but it had something. I liked the appearance of Mary Jane by the end. Something that Ditko had held onto for much too long. And the ongoing plot line with the Rhino in the background was cool, too. Very likable. But I also liked the attempt at the two-sided hero. It's thin, certainly, but it worked okay, and probably lent itself to greater growth over the next few years, too. The Jameson story is probably the weakest section of the comic - but it wasn't terrible. Strange that IT'S the main story.
