At least this one was better than last month, right? It brought a few more characters into the assortment, but for the most part stuck to a pretty simple way to place and tell the story. It re-introduced Grimmax back into the main line of Plasm-world, and dropped a few names that will more than likely be tied to a few other titles (Glory) and etc in the future. But the comic just hasn't entirely been holding my attantion. It should.
I liked how at the end, Sueraceen seemed to flip back over and re-align herself to the new Lorca - pledging her alliance to not him - but to his ideals and office. This issue also didn't feel compelled to introduce too many newer concepts and stories - instead focusing on what had been opened already in the comic - and sort of attempting to close a few of them. That was a relief.
I liked and did not like Lichtor here. Seemed a little too ambiguous - sort of like Paul Stanley with a sldie - and it pegged him too much of a slime ball too quickly. I wish it had the more ambiguous nature in many of these sideline characters - something the old Valiant universe seemed to nail down in spades.
The cover is far too juvenile - and a little rushed. Even a few of the cetral figures look more like background musings. It misses the crispness that the comic should have. And the inserted panel over the four pages? Cool insert - but felt misplaced again. Too loose on much of the art in the detail.
It seemed to do a better job with dialogue and volume of words. It even finally brought a few people within the world to really condemn the very nature of the self-consumption. I thought that could be one of the first things that many of the characters went to and condemned. It doesn't make sense to constantly recycle so much for entertainment. For purpose and opposition? That makes sense. To squelch? Sure. But for fun? Strange.
The editorials were better - even if they did take time to address everything. And in retrospect it also seems that Jim was more rant than substance. If it really was such a victory - do you need to tell us all about it? Or just move on.
I like that it inserted the Holidays next. See how much it adds- but I actually tghought it might just be a reprint. Seeing as nearly everything is just a reprint in a novel nowadays. Curious to see if it's stand-alone or can be read on its own.
