This one is odd, to say the least. Heck, most of the comics in this world have been odd, to say the least. I am reading a comic story about characters that are from the world of studio wrestling. And the strangest thing about it is that it is much more compelling than many of the comics - especially 1 and 2 in this comic have been. I can follow the story - and the physical action - just by completing what is happening in the story. It's easy to see much of it - and I can keep locales and characters apart. A few of the background characters - like the ring announcer - seem a bit too extreme and unrealistic - but at least the makeup is coherent.
In this comic, Shooter takes a moment out of his busy self-promotion to thank Kirby. That was an embarrassment. I know nothing about it. Me? I would have compressed the details of working in the future with Liefeld onto one page. On the facing page, I would have written a serious homage to Kirby. I know that last issue a quick sort of print homage ran - and that was classy. But to demean his memory with the quick blurb at the start of the self-promotion? Don't do it again, man. It retrospect, it looks pretty heartless.
Something else to mention - and I saw this in Valiant comics lately. Many of the ads are internal self-promotion. But many of them are simply exaggerated close-ups of previously run art in comics. It's easy to see afterward, but many of these run writings may have been the signs of the company's approaching demise.
See you next.
