These are some of the strongest stories in the old Valiant pantheon. And love Fred Pierce, I don't know if his perspective on some of the old Valiant clamoring could be really seen as completely accurate. I love this stuff - but most of it is really available in most self-respecting quarter bins, or from many kind vf.com members, right? That being said... to give a taste of the old Valiant stuff to comic buyers out there? Really smart. Especially on a day like FCBD. Great idea. Now, when you take the time to put this stuff together - don't cheap through this. Take some time and DEVELOP that story, kids. Write a bit more of a taste of a story in these. As much as I like a few words or concept art - that's not why I buy the comics. WRITE SOME MORE. Go get Bob Hall to write a six page treatment and show us a bit more. PLEASE! Especially for us crazies that buy TWO copies of it. Thanks in advance!
And this month, we learn that Jack is stupid.
So, the premise behind this book is a race across Canada to redeem the reputation of Kickers, Inc. - who have been fired from their football team. They are racing against an 'all-Canadian' team for the rights to name a benefit wing of a hospital, and increase their PR status. And the beginning isn't all that bad. I am actually SORT of seeing inside each of these characters - and reconciling with the fact that none of these guys are really going for the long haul - and they finally seem a BIT morose and round. That they aren't big shirts. Jack is leading going into his leg, and then decides to go off the beaten path to fight aliens, Sasquatch, and some other mysterious villains. WHAT? Did he NEVER read the tortoise and the hare before? Wow. The cover isn't poorly made, but it's aliens shooting him? Wow. Goodbye, kids. Goodbye.
