Something really has to be said for the willingness to revitalize a property that first - didn't make it to the end of the Valiant universe - neither as a title nor as a character. And for the courage to bring back a character that hadn't been used at ALL during the Acclaim re-launch. In addition, the curve that the book took was rather a courageous one. Especially during the downturn in the industry and also in the company. With that said, the comic is no Armorines. As I read it, I couldn't help but picture Jim-Jim and Spreitel (sp?) from Speed Racer yelling each line of dialogue. It's chaotic and strange. I know that the intent was an attempt to capitalize on the Manga popularity - but... What a mess.
At this time, a tremendously misused character
Silver Surfer has become such an icon. Probably recognizable outside of comic book dorkdom - but certainly within it. And this time, the misuse reached epic proportion - and really needed to go away for a good long while. From his overcoat and large sunglasses - down to his world changing abilities and control - near godlike ability to control nearly everything. His iconic stature is degraded to wandering through the subway and flipping entrance switches for subway tokens? And if he has such an amazing ability to control - why in the world does he need such an outlandish disguise - or need to really go on an attack against a Doomsday robot? Flip a switch. It's dead. And he keeps running into folks - or perhaps attacking the wrong problems - where he's misinterpreted? That's the goal of the guy? Listen. Go away. Hide. Help the people who deserve it. This junk needs to stop.
