I think I have said before that when I read a Shadowman issue, I don't always love it as a small piece. That its brilliance arises better at the conclusion of the story. Clearly stated in this comic. I'm not certain exactly how I feel about Mr. Twist coming into this comic. He's interesting as a character, and revealed as a spell here. Darque, on the other hand - great new take. Even the revelations as the issue progress are excellent. Each step leading up to this point - brilliant. I am not certain yet if I will like the new take on the Shadowman better than the first - or the other way around. But it most certainly has a very different edge. I liked Dox's dialogue - especially the alive comment - and I also liked that the tiny monkey man seems to switch sides - if he's even capable of a side - by the end. I cannot say enough about Zircher's art within. I still don't know if I love his covers as a whole as much - some of his covers are my favorite - but not others. But as an interior artist - stunning.
A change, certainly.
Not certain how I feel about this comic. It's focused on dreams throughout. All of the art has changed, and the story seems to really be getting better - even if the dialogue has gotten much worse. I am able to follow the story - and it might even be called compelling. The cover is cool... But the problem with the whole dream scenario is that it doesn't have to have any real consistency throughout. Things change, and as a reader, I never really have to return at all to anything. In defense, the comic seems to have a focus around this mystery woman - even if her portrayal isn't really consistent throughout... At least the theme of the parents remains relatively consistent.
