The comic has retread itself quickly in the last two issues. Beautiful set - art - but most importantly, the story. Jack, tormented by his inner demon, faces off against the powers against him - and the weapons - especially the whip - made from the flesh of deceased... Wow. It hit. I especially loved the line where the user had to take a few days after just handling the thing. Not that the initial Justin Jordan stuff didn't make great stories - but it just never had all of the parts working together in the main story. Except 0 and 10, of course. But this one hit the paces and kept running. I even skipped just a moment when I realized that the Jack was facing off against the man he'd injured. I was afraid that the writing would earn him forgiveness, and he'd trollop all happy - but NO - facing his demons has made the pain even greater. And given way to Jack losing control of himself again. And although the ruse of Dox could have been quicker - the placement at the end of last issue - against the start of this one could NOT have worked out more elegantly - the story has been full. And love next issue's conclusion, too.
Closing out a few things.
I love when stories really focus themselves on a few characters - and set a pace ahead of themselves for future. When I first started reading comics, I started at X-Men 210 - and then went back and purchased the issues from 200 to 209. Some of the cooler stories of the time really helped to give a sound background. The X-Men 204 Nightcrawler focus and the Wolverine 205 showed these characters on their own and gave me a better sense of them in the group. This one did the same for a few PSI-Force characters. It also closed up - in a sense - the Spitfire story, or at least the armor. And gave me a sense of finality to the involvement of Jenny in the PITT, as well. Finally, the book gave the background stories in the characters in the back of the book, too. The initial paragraphs, as well, giving the sense of the history of the New Universe - really great to give that order. Reminded me of another small company with quick summaries at the beginning - on the back side of the cover. Hmmmmm....
