I may like this comic more than I liked the Shadowman zero issue. It has so much to offer. It had so much characterization - and VERY little Shadowman. Not certain exactly how to interpret that, but but for me - my first guess is that the characterization of the sideline characters was far more important than the focal one. That the Darque family made a far greater impression of Jordan than Jack Boniface ever did. My earliest assertions probably lean to the sense that the Jack Boniface character would become more as the series went on. That his initial creation was one of a sense of wide-eyes and lack of knowledge - paralleled major mistakes. That may have made many of the earliest issues less than the others, and the later ones so much better. Either way, it really paved a way for the future. Not a bad idea - but only if the writer actually planned to abandon ship part of the way through. The comic story itself had that magical part to it. The heart - that really had a great sens of drawing the reader in. I've held off on writing the review for this long, because I wanted to try and devote my full attention to the reading - and already want to go back for a second read. That's what probably made this comic so great. The clash over Sandria's perspective - especially the fact that her brother didn't even really realize that she was running from him - powerful. And her own sacrifice of her child - FOR her true love... While it is certainly difficult to understand as real individuals, made the story. Strange how Shadowman has some of the strongest issues in the run, and then some of the weakest ones, too.
Are we running out of ideas?
This feels like a re-invention of PSI-Force in the parallel world of D.P. 7. I really did not like this issue. I found myself working on meaningless tasks instead of really jumping on this review, even. That's bad. The art took a few steps backward into the face of eighties hair and bad superficial stories. Did we need to rehash some Fox episode of paranormals attack or something? It just seemed like a striking fill-in. Especially in the face of real revamping that the comic - and the New Universe had done lately, I found myself not caring for any of these characters again in this issue. Terrible.
