First of all, the art on this thing is terrible. I am not so worried about the story – and writing – ruining the book and its popularity anymore – but the art? That could really crush the whole direction of the thing. I’ve seen comparable art from high school kids – and this may be harsh – but it destroys much of the book this way. Thankfully, the writing in the book has improved markedly. Perhaps not the writing – but the dialogue and interchange of characters are quite improved. Thankfully. On more than one occasion, I found myself chuckling at the lines – and really feeling that they were in the thrust of the original Quantum & Woody sarcasm – if not the full feel and depth of the characters the first time around. Now I am feeling that the story still has more than a few caricatures – but I was thankful that the ‘priest’ putting Woody in his baptism also saw through him and was interested in drowning him during his baptism, too. Even his henchmen saw through that line of BS. But Woody’s girlfriend calling up and starting the intimate conversation while running – and then him getting shot – in the tires – then questioning to determine whether or not to run was great, too. Quantum’s reaction to being deified was probably over the top – but we can see that him being a superhero was important to him – and this may be Doyle’s art going over the top, as well – instead of the writing. The best lines of the thing, though, came right at the beginning when Woody was getting questioned – and he was fretting over the nicknames – and then turned it immediately around to go on the attack with mustaches and the jacket. Nice. Overall, a big improvement over the last issue. Glad it moved a few of the more unbelievable people to the sidelines. But it had already lowered itself quite a bit. Improved writing – better dialogue. But the art is wrecking the book. Wrecking it.
