September 13, 2013 - These covers don't do these justice.
This story flips through the amazing levels.
I read this at a frenetic pace. Feeling the turns of each section of the comic. I can feel the heartbeat. Sense the tensions. It's an incredible comic. This may be where the Bloodshot in the new Valiant is all stemming from. I can see why so many of the writers in the new era wanted so much to speak with Sacal - who happened to be the so called expert. I love the Frankenstein quotes, and its ability to really move back and forth between the two lines of the story. I also loved the statement about not really dead - and not really alive. I actually lost my first review written on this - but it was a complete blast.
I almost didn't notice Mandarin in the background.
While this comic may have been better than comics of late, it is again missing the essential elements that make a read interesting. It has very little emotion or heart in any part of the Hulk characterization at all. And that's too bad. Not that the Hulk is some classic favorite character of mine, but when you look at a modern written Hulk - it could be so much more with just a little bit of heart inserted. Instead we see Hulk crushing, and at least the Mandarin is a LITTLE less of a racist depiction. Fury is back - and he could be so much more, but it seems that no writer has ever really done ANYTHING with him at all, either. Hulk smashes through everything. Even the quicksand. And I had so much hope for that.
