Magnus #8 was really awesome. I really liked that Rai's wife saved the child. It was really brave of her. The alien invasion was classic. Classic comic book story. The guns carnivorous alien invaders, and giant spaceships is a classic from comics. I still really liked the awesomeness of it.
Mads reads FF 8
I could definitely tell that this was made for kids. I really liked the puppet master. He was awesome. Alicia was also pretty cool. I hope she'll come back in later issues. Anyway, great from front to back. I didn't get the flying, jet-powered horse, though.
In the sky
Loved it. Loved it. Loved it. Coming to a resolution, and failures throughout the book. Liked Magnus's confronting of anti-grannies - but especially loved Takashi's wife chastizing him at the end of the story. A bit confused as to why SOLAR comes out of hiding for this - and this, only. But it worked. Of course, as a critic, I'm thinking a bit of deus ex machina - but who am I to say? The story concludes beautifully, and wraps up much without wrapping anything. Grandmother begins to take her leave, which is what all wished, and Rai comes back - plus his son moves back to stay with the ex. Loved this.
I'm pulling your strings..
Okay. The issue is fair. I liked the Puppet Master - as dorky as he is. It also brought Alicia for the first time. His step-daughter. Cool. Dunno if the mag comes back to this again, or not. While the issue is good, I don't think it aged too well. Esepcially the Puppet Master - probably has a difficult time really being included in current issues. Radiocactive clay? Really? I think I liked the aside section with Johnny - the sort of 'explain the science' of the torch section. Of course, I'd suggest incorporating that into a storyline of sorts, but hey. What do I know? I didn't create these guys! I'm stunned, as well, by the letters included in the mag. I'd alluded to the realism of the Thing in previous critiques, but I'm more stunned by the audience reaction - so many comments about the adoration for the realism, and even a letter from a girl - looking for advice to help explain to others why it was okay for her to like the magazine. Excelsior!
What do I know?
I'm leaning this to FF. Close, but the Invasion ends too happy-go-lucky. Of course, THAT all goes to hell...
