Magnus was awesome. I liked the fact that Grandmother wanted to be a moble unit. I also liked the fact that Rai was on the back. I liked that they brought back 1-A. The best part about it was that they pooled Magnus, Rai, and Solar into one comic.
Fantastic Four Continued
In this FF, I really liked the introduction of Doctor Doom. He is totally awesome. I also liked that Mr. Fantastic seemed to know Doctor Doom. The best part of FF was when they went back in time and The Thing ended up being Blackbeard. O.K., this time I liked FF better. But it was a really close tie.
Invasion begins
Reading speculation earlier today, I read that this may be the most important issue in the 2012 Valiant re-launch. Perhaps over-speculative, but I can see Greg's point. This book serves as the cornerstone of the new Valiant Universe, with the introduction of Rai in the universe. Rai was always my favorite character. Flawed, responsible, ultimately tragic. SO much happens in this issue - disconnecting with the content of the issue. Nice 'wig,' Magnus. The issue, though, is stellar. Great concept, the flip issue. So many new things throughout the line already - the zero origin issue, the coupon redemption (dang it), and the Solar contained origin. The flip-book intro concept was great. Of course, Rai was officially introduced by the trading card last month, but... Invasion clashed the first concept, with this great story. Tough to beat.
Return to the Future
Greatest villain ever? Perhaps. Certainly the most incredible the FF faced. Love the look at his past, and rounding out his origin - especially without showing his face. Well-done. I also liked the first Dr. Doom trip to the past, and Thing becoming Blackbeard. Well done. Although the Melin's jewels was a bit too corny for my taste, and I hate the splashes on the cover that have little to do with the story. Come on? Invisible Girl overcomes by flipping a switch? Really? Pretty dull, here. Still, though, so much contained in the story - and the team's best origin story so far, to boot. A lot to shake a stick at - including the Star-Wars-dialogue, but the story itself is amazing.
The bottom line
Rai may be my all-time favorite Valiant character, but Dr. Doom is just plain amazing. LOVED it.
