This one was a serious change in the direction of the comic. In fact, after I read it, I thought that the direction of the comic took a serious turn in the direction of garbage. I have read many of the comics so far inside the Defiant universe - and all have been somewhere between passable and downright bad. Except this comic. Dark Dominion has been a success in development and writing. Much of them have been very good to excellent - but this one was poor to terrible. I really have no idea why or how - but it made a mess.
It may be because the comic started trying to hard to spread its success and interest throughout the universe. This is the first part of a crossover. It was painful. I will go back and attempt to read through it again - but I won't make any promises.
What struck me most at the start of reading this was its insistence at the end of the comic at how great the comic was. I just kept thinking about President Trump insisting so many times about what or how things really happened. If this is the first part of the arching Foxhunt story - this may have been a major misstep. Major names inside of the writing responsibility - and it almost feels like a too many fingers inside the pie to really make it work. The art is messy, too. Adlard really changed the comic look distinctly - and not for the better. The cover looks silly - and the opening page has the feel of a seventh grader with arms all akimbo - but looking more like a doll arm falling down. It almost feels like the Plasm world was incorporated into the Dark Dominion one - instead of the other way around as it should have been. Put more Dark Dominion onto the world of Plasm instead. It suffers like the strange dichotomy of story. Intense drama then calm. Then back to intense drama and calm again. It has a real problem, with introducing so many stories and allowing small things to happen and back again. It's got so much happening that it seems boring. Nothing really jives through it. I even did an internet search on all of the Defiant I could find - and found ZERO references for the Foxhunt storyline. After I publish this, I will check again to see if this becomes the first search result.
The story also introduces Mule - if that weren't enough. Exactly what the story would need. More stuff inside of the story. he could be a cool character - but I have no idea.
The page overlap of Chasm looking inside of the memories and seeing inside to see Lorca and all of the Plasm world - that stuff looks like garbage. So stupid and juvenile. I mean PATHETIC level of stupidity.
This was a nightmare - and not like the inside of the comic. What a mess.
