I can't tell you how much this felt like an old Jack Boniface Shadowman. The racial issues - tthe trip through the old South... Now the level of voodoo was a little more intense - but Zero connecting with the kid in the story - that felt all new once again. Nice artwork - and a beautiful set of ironies, too. I loved that the Klansmen called upon the demons to extricate those of impure blood, and they just started to attack the hicks. Now - I can appreciate the attacks, and even the quick lesson to the extremists - even if it hung a bit too heavily on the writing. And the moment that he hung onto his Mom - and all had that realization that everyone was okay. But remember how many people were JUST killed? Any mourning for them? Well... If that's the only fault...
The Falcon?
So, we abandon the mantra of the past - Bucky - and adopt instead the Falcon - a pretty darned cool dude. And one that eventually went into the hands of one Priest, right? So for that, some respecting there, right? A little crazy set-up - seeing his very traditional intro - and a few bits of Harlem thrown onto him. And although some of the book seemed a little insane - it came back a few giant steps toward readability by just introducing this character in this book. And I do have to wonder - if when the creators are putting it together, if the creators really knew that they were creating something - if not a first tier character - something that could be remembered for quite a while. The clay thing, though, that was silly.
Really?
Both are pretty good. I'd say Captain America - because it's Falcon. But either could be better.
