Let me start by saying that this was a great idea to start out like this. It combined three titles - all pretty different - with very varied levels pf success. A & A is one of the top AND bottom titles. Timewalker at the end was pretty poorly executed. EW was one of the more consistent - and lengthy titles. It had (and has) real opportunities for success. Reading it put me up and down again - about a million times back and forth. The look is pretty good. Even if a few of the really working art pieces kind of fail. It's sharp. The story is a great idea. But somehow everything just seems to get all confounded around. It's almost like it's trying to tell too many stories all at once. I know that it's a BIG book - but the Turok one, I had LOW expectations going in, and was pleasantly surprised. This one, I had high expectations, and was disappointed. Neither are bad. They just need some time for growth.
I own THIS comic.
Perhaps it's my love for it - but the dialogue in the comic is pretty good. The story isn't half bad, either. Nice to see the old two heroes come together in an outing - following the OLD when two villains get together and they start as enemies. It is a BIT different - throwing in some more hidden gems in there. The hidden thing on Angel's wing was great. It threw me off the path of the 'surprise' battle - and hidden agenda to throw Magneto off the course. It ends MUCH too quickly. And Toad is little more than Igor in the comic. The Avengers comic has come a long way, and X-Men - even better - is a pale comparison.
