January 23, 2013 - A lot to be said for this bold effort.
The cover is stunning, even if the character isn't
I can remember reading about the Beach Boys' effort, SMiLE, and hearing about the release at the time, Smiley Smile instead. Which turned out to be a bunt, instead of a home run. I am uncertain if I can characterize it completely in the same way. I mean, the effort is solid - and after some of the last issues, it needed some serious assistance. But this isn't terrible. It just wasn't the spark that Watchmen had ignited so many years before. For all of this book's efforts, it felt too much like the Watchmen. The Sin is becoming too flat. Some characters have no depth. But the Seleski connection has gotten to be a spark again. I just hope that the entirety of the story isn't absolved away into some silly dream.
What was that again?
For some reason, I always sort of remembered Green Goblin getting killed at the end of this story - and it wasn't just in the Spider-Man movie, either. The effort is an excellent one. A valiant one, it you will. I do hate the whole amnesia storyline. And used here, when Ditko had a different path... To reveal, and then erase seems pretty silly. I don't like the Spidey image up in the corner of the cover, either. And the stringing along of Mary Jane is starting to get irritating. I guess what I am saying is that the little things are ticking me off, so perhaps this issue isn't as iconic as it should have been.
