Really, the best part of Quantum & Woody wasn't the level of humor in it. Frankly, it was humor peppered into a truly dramatic piece. It bit through much of the real hardships - and confronted some rather serious issues in its pages. When I was reading the last issue, I was actually fearful that the books might have picked up some of the crazed insanity of the new Valiant comics - and trod into the inane foolishness. Priest turned the corner here. Woody's real cynicism revealed, we see how Eric is truly sick - maybe dying. And Amy Fishbein now has died. Not exactly a place I wanted to see the story go, but it also tackled gender identity issues in the book - without feeling like another tired episode of Glee. Frankly, the comic hadn't been great until this issue - but this one had moments of true greatness. Not that the end of the comic here two issues from now I am expecting it to wrap through so much of the lost story. But here, it has a chance to be one that I will remember.
