There is a lot positive to say about this comic. And I have poked through it a few times - and really tried to delve into the concept behind it - and it is an interesting one - especially with the other comics in the universe being stranger. Good Guys being a cross somewhere between X-Men and New Universe, and Plasm being the strange sci-fi. This one strikes in the realistically bound sci-fi portions of a read.
There is much to be excited in this comic - and much to really like. It seemed to trace errors of Plasm, and correct back upon them. It may have been that Dark Sominion was a victim of the worst time of comics, but the read is pleasant - and the comic brought together two greats. I won't rehash the story - but Steve Ditko was a serious portion of the zero issue comic - and the creation of the origins of the Dark Dominion world. He submitted half of the art, and then asked to be removed from the comic. Shooter asked him to finish - and he did. But the comic brought together these greats - Ditko from the Sixties, and Shooter from the Eighties and Nineties. It is a real winner. Confusing, certainly. But an excellent read throughout. It really did things right. Or perhaps right-er this time. Only it already had to follow in the tracks of the mistake established. And follow a story that wasn't as good. Of course, some would say that the stronger story should follow - but comparing the two - the other one seems far too juvenile. It raised some questions in me - mostly surrounding the release of the two - and if reversed if it could have had any impact - or if releasing Plasm first was intentional to supersede the lawsuit. With Ditko leaving the book, it may certainly modernize the concept - it had a nice link to the past and origins. I had hoped that it could build - but needed to connect. From the cover art I saw it was a great looking book. The comic was never reprinted in any other form. Also a great idea. It had no other covers released, either. I wish it could have lasted - and it could have changed some at the time. But I will probably return to read much at the end. |
