This may be a difficult review to really fill through all of this without wandering over myself again. The first flip through felt really... Racist. I would doubt that this could be published today. And why really create a comic with broken English from the characters. Flip over to translate with the easy new brackets. But never mind. Only been around since forever.
Get by the overt racism and it is an okay comic. Not the best I have ever read - but much better than some of what Defiant has lifted to me. It's a relatively basic story introducing Charlemagne and the snake character - Ngu. It rings of a bad Bruce Lee movie - with some slight superpowers to balance the story against itself. I like the comic more - but we are still not butting against greatness yet.
Seems that it was published inside of Hero #9 - which ironically also includes stories on the future of Valiant comics. A true competitor of Wizard magazine - but most certainly its redheaded stepbrother. Advertisements abound for the upcoming Hero publications.
The front cover included a heartfelt story from Deborah Purcell about Vietnam - and it seemed to lay the groundwork for a complex story to be contained - but this wasn't it.
The villain seemed to just lure bystanders into his lair with kidnappings and then battle over the hearts of these children - criticizing that children weren't developed women. What? He also seems to have amultitude of strange powers - or perhaps it's just the one power of levitation inside of him - along with his extreme fighting skills/ But really - is Vietnam teeming with goodhearted American (or other) bodybuilders who are just waiting to be brought in to save kidnapping victims? If someone came by to me - would I fight or pursue the authorities? Right?
Not certain if hos powers were transferred from the fire and the fight - or he had them all along and they just needed to be awakened by some serial pervert - but it starts strange - and gets back on track - but where in the world is this going?
I want to find solace in this one. It appears to be much more straightforward - but I have got to read the next issue first.
Lastly - I don't think that if I had realized my true abilities - Neato would have been the phrase I might have dug for, You?
