And really, much of this stemmed from the flipping of the bodies - but Woody has become much more contemplative, and Eric has actually become quite callous. Each adopting a bit of the other's script - but especially in this story line - it really helped to continue its upward momentum. What may have been lost in the second story arc - too much humor and silliness - instead of this real connection - has been replaced by this depth in both characters. This may also be the first time I was really upset that the entire Black Lion mini was aborted. This story really devoted itself to much of the changes - and development - and outside of the one panel at the end of Concrete Jungle - not much true vision of the lion. I also liked the revelation that the end was coming - and although the next story really started the first actual story arc - it was great to see them still not entirely having a mission - and much of the outside world still making fun of them a bit. Finally, reading it now - with the new Quantum & Woody story really taking a dive - it has outlined specifically what made this series great - and what may ultimately kill the new one.
Why hasn't the comic moved forward?
I really thought that the last comic could have really pinched us into this one - and that the Shocker might be around for at least a FEW issues - but this one that rips around so quickly - and I didn't especially love the comic. It's too bad. The Shocker is a decent villain - even if he felt a lot like a rip-off of Electro. I don't like that all of his power just comes from his bands - that makes him much easier to defeat in the long run, really. But it did have a good sense of linking backward and forward again. Still held onto the tablets - and now they're lost again? Both last month and this month seemed like quick bridges - but it's much easier to swallow just the first one.
Awesome
Quantum & Woody are still solidly beating a not terrible effort.
