But after LAST month, this one seemed like quite a bit of a disappointment. It COULD have been a great list - look - or whatever... Back into the life of a flawed man. Who made decisions, and took paths that the more complex side could only see. We don't always do the best thing, rational thing, interesting thing. We just do. And are selfish. That was what made THIS Solar work. And the last one. This comic tries to give rational reasoning to everything - and that is where it fails. Don't do that. Keep people and characters mysterious - and break the mold. That's a problem.
Out with a whimper
Let me take a minute to discuss the reclusive Ditko. A genius, without question. Co-creator of Spider-Man - and so much involvement in the earliest days of Marvel - I can't ignore his influence. But if this was the level of work Ditko was going to be completing, it is an excellent thing that he chose to retire. This comic - a one-off - is a bad one to say its least. A professor, out of prison, makes an octopus robot to attack... Not the stuff of legend, certainly. I've read a bunch about the separation of Ditko and Lee - and their refusal to speak - but I would love to really know more about the conflict between the two men.
