I can't remember the last time I'd read a SOLAR comic book. I'd tried to get ahead and catch up at the same time - and I have a new goal for the June reading - and we shall see how THAT goes - but I am getting right along with it. This perhaps wasn't a great way to get back into the SOLAR spirit. Or perhaps - I got back into it too late. This comic didn't feed my need for greatness much. At all. Dr. Eclipse? Bleah. Then, we revive this Ravenus character. And another death that doesn't stay a death - for long at least. Too much, too soon. Too silly, too hard at trying. Oh, well. They ain't all gems.
Darkness all around
Yes, the Molten Man is one of the b-level Spider-Man villains, but this comic cover is pretty amazing. The character of the Molten Man may be a silly one - but he seems to be a tough dude. The writing sorta skips ahead a few beats to find the solution and trap Pete and the enemy. The fighting really isn't the best part of the comic. The humanity in the book - even with Flash around - is the best. We see Pete's desperation of the character - the real strain on him - and the thankfulness as he gets the scholarship to Empire. The Ditko art lately is starting to grate on me some of the time. The closed eyes smile and the repetitive faces - especially on the women - are getting tougher to deal with in these books.
